Austurvöllur is a public square and popular gathering place in the centre of Reykjavík. Surrounding the square are Alþing, the Parliament of Iceland as well as Dómkirkjan, the Reykjavík Cathedral. In the center of the square stands a statue of Jón Sigurðsson, a leader of Iceland’s independence movement.
