Akureyri - Hlíðarfjall

Looking down from the cameras on Hlíðarfjall, you’ll see the bustling ski slopes that make this area a winter favorite. On a clear day, you can also catch glimpses of Akureyri, Iceland’s “Capital of the North,” spread out below.

In the north of Iceland sits Akureyri, the fifth-largest municipality, after the capital area, and the largest town outside Iceland’s more populated southwest corner. Nicknamed the "Capital of North Iceland", Akureyri is an important port and fishing centre. The area was settled in the 9th century.
